Preserving the Past, Enriching the Present,
Inspiring the Future

Our Mission

The Meux Home Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting Fresno’s Gilded Age heritage through the lens of the Meux family home. As stewards of history, we strive to provide a meaningful and immersive connection to the past offering residents and visitors an opportunity to engage with the cultural, social, and architectural history of late 19th-century Fresno.

This landmark serves as both a repository of the past and an educational resource where meticulously preserved furnishings, textiles, and artifacts create a tangible link to the people and stories that shaped the city. Through dynamic exhibitions, guided tours, and scholarly programs, we illuminate the complexities of the era ensuring that history is not merely observed but actively experienced.

The Meux Home Museum stands as a beacon of historical preservation and civic engagement. Our mission extends beyond the walls of the home. We accomplish this by fostering a deeper understanding of the past while inspiring future generations to appreciate and safeguard the legacies that define our community.

WE GATHER TO PRESERVE AND LEARN FROM THE PAST.

Museums are not static institutions, but are dynamic spaces of inquiry, preservation, and public engagement. The Meux Home Museum is dedicated to the rigorous study and stewardship of Fresno’s Gilded Age history, ensuring that the narratives of the past remain accessible and relevant. Through archival research, conservation efforts, and public programming we bridge the gap between history and contemporary understanding. This fosters an appreciation for the people and events that shaped our present world.

WE HONOR AND CARE FOR OUR SHARED HISTORY.

History is a collective inheritance, entrusted to institutions that safeguard and interpret its meaning. The Meux Home Museum upholds this responsibility by preserving the material culture of the Gilded Age, ensuring that each artifact, document, and architectural element is treated with the utmost care. Through conservation, scholarship, and interpretation we offer a window into the lived experiences of those who came before us, reinforcing the importance of memory, identity, and historical consciousness.

"The stories of the past endure only if we choose to preserve them." - C.H.

WE INSPIRE FUTURE GENERATIONS THROUGH PRESERVATION AND EDUCATION.

Museums serve as cultural touchstones offering visitors a deeper understanding of the past through immersive and thought-provoking experiences. At The Meux Home Museum, we believe that history is most powerful when it is interactive and accessible. Our educational initiatives, curated exhibitions, and hands-on learning opportunities invite the public to engage with history beyond the traditional classroom setting. By fostering curiosity and critical thinking, we ensure that the lessons of the past remain relevant to future generations.

WE ADVOCATE FOR THE PROTECTION OF OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE.

The role of a museum extends beyond its walls. Advocacy for historic preservation is at the core of our mission. The Meux Home Museum actively works to protect Fresno’s architectural and cultural heritage, championing efforts that ensure the survival of historic landmarks and artifacts for generations to come. By engaging with policymakers, educators, and the broader community, we emphasize the importance of preserving our shared history, recognizing that safeguarding the past is essential to understanding our collective future.
