DESCRIPTION:While Father’s Day as we know it today would not become an official holiday until the early twentieth century\, Victorian families held deep respect for the role of fathers within the home. In the late nineteenth century\, fathers were often viewed as providers\, protectors\, and moral guides who helped shape the character and values of their children. \nVictorian family life placed great importance on education\, manners\, and strong family bonds. Fathers frequently participated in reading with their children\, teaching practical skills\, and encouraging personal responsibility. Family gatherings\, shared meals\, church attendance\, and time spent together at home were common ways families celebrated and strengthened those relationships. \nUnlike modern Father’s Day celebrations\, there was no specific annual holiday dedicated to fathers during the Victorian period. However\, expressions of gratitude and respect were woven into daily family life. Letters\, handmade gifts\, family photographs\, and cherished keepsakes often served as meaningful reminders of a father’s influence and legacy. \nAt the Meux Home Museum\, we appreciate the important role fathers have played throughout history and the lasting impact they continue to have on their families today. In observance of Father’s Day\, the museum is closed so that our volunteers\, staff\, and visitors may spend time celebrating the fathers\, grandfathers\, stepfathers\, mentors\, and father figures who have enriched their lives. \nWe wish all fathers and father figures a wonderful Father’s Day and thank them for the guidance\, wisdom\, and love they share with future generations.

SUMMARY:Bourbon by Gaslight : When Your Week Deserves a Whiskey
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Meux Home Museum for Bourbon by Gaslight\, an intimate evening of fine bourbon\, whiskey\, cigars\, and conversation in the historic gardens of the Meux Home. \nFriday\, September 25\, 2026\n6:00 to 9:00 p.m.\nMeux Home Museum\n1007 R Street\, Fresno\, California 93721 \nBourbon by Gaslight is intentionally different from a large tasting festival. This is a boutique tasting event\, created for guests who would rather slow down\, enjoy their glass\, and spend an evening in good company beneath the lights of the Meux Home gardens. \nGuests will have the opportunity to sample a carefully selected assortment of bourbons and whiskeys throughout the evening. Take your time\, return to a favorite tasting\, talk with representatives\, or simply find a comfortable spot in the garden and enjoy the setting. \nCigar enthusiasts are welcome. Guests may bring their own cigars\, and cigars will also be available for purchase during the evening from A Perfect Blend of Fresno’s Tower District. \nWant to settle in for a while? Bring a lounge chair and find your favorite place in the garden. Bourbon by Gaslight is meant to be enjoyed at an easy pace. \nTickets\n$75 Bourbon Tasting Admission\nIncludes admission to the event and bourbon and whiskey tastings. \n$45 Designated Driver Admission\nFor guests who want to enjoy the evening without participating in alcohol tastings. \nThis is a 21 and over event. A valid photo ID is required. \nAll ticket sales are final. Tickets are nontransferable. \nSpace is intentionally limited to preserve the intimate character of Bourbon by Gaslight. Advance ticket purchase is strongly encouraged. \nCome raise a glass beneath the evening lights and experience the Meux Home in a way you rarely get to see it. \nBourbon by Gaslight\nWhen Your Week Deserves a Whiskey \nProceeds from Bourbon by Gaslight support the continued preservation of the Meux Home Museum and its educational mission.
